Rotator Cuff Tendinitis

Shoulder Pain

Rotator cuff tendonitis, also known as rotator cuff tendinopathy, is a condition characterized by inflammation and degeneration of the tendons that make up the rotator cuff. The rotator cuff is a group of four muscles and tendons that surround the shoulder joint, responsible for stabilizing the joint and allowing for a range of shoulder movements.

Rotator cuff tendonitis can occur due to repetitive overhead movements, aging, or trauma. Pathophysiology of rotator cuff tendonitis involves micro-tears in the tendons, leading to inflammation and pain.

In a sports rehab setting, addressing rotator cuff tendonitis often involves a process to get patients out of pain, increase functional capacity, and then integrate them back into their performance goals and movements. This process may include modalities such as Shockwave therapy, soft tissue mobilization techniques, and targeted exercises to improve strength, flexibility, and range of motion.
